Board-certified Physician Cares for Freeman’s Smallest Patients

Freeman Health System is pleased to welcome Dr. Rahul Oberoi, a board-certified neonatologist to its medical staff. Neonatology is a pediatric specialty that consists of the medical care of premature or critically ill newborns and is practiced in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

“When caring for these babies in the NICU, I often develop a strong connection with the parents,” Dr. Oberoi. “That’s important because it’s not only a stressful time, but parents need to know that care doesn’t end when their son or daughter is discharged from the NICU. They need to be aware of the potential developmental issues they might face in the future.”

After earning his medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, Dr. Oberoi completed his residency in pediatrics at University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kan., and his fellowship in neonatology at University of Louisville Hospitals in Louisville, Ky. He is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Freeman NICU provides specialized care combining state-of-the-art technology with years of experience treating premature and critically ill infants. The survival rate for infants less than three pounds has increased significantly as a result of the outstanding medical care provided by the Freeman NICU team of physicians, neonatal nurse practitioners, specialized developmental therapists and nurses.
