New accreditation and technology indicate excellence at Freeman Wound Care

June 25, 2014

In addition to offering two new services – Freeman Wound Care received accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.

JOPLIN, Mo. – In addition to offering two new services – one a minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins and the other a new technology that provides thorough wound cleaning and debridement – Freeman Wound Care received accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society accreditation means Freeman Wound Care is staffed with properly trained specialists and offers hyperbaric equipment operated with the highest level of safety. Governed by the Joint Commission and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, the accreditation means patients of Freeman Wound Care receive high-quality patient care.

Located at 3315 McIntosh Circle Drive, Freeman Wound Care treats many types of wounds, including diabetic wounds, varicose vein ulcers, arterial leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, postoperative wounds and damage from radiation treatment. The clinic offers hyperbaric medicine, which helps the body repair wounds and fight infections. Hyperbaric patients breathe pure oxygen while resting in a special pressurized chamber. This process improves healing by allowing greater amounts of oxygen to dissolve in the bloodstream and reach body tissue. The process is painless – patients can even watch TV or rest while receiving a hyperbaric treatment.

Freeman Wound Care recently added radiofrequency venous ablation, a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and venous ulcers. Through this technique, physicians use heat to damage the varicose vein, causing it to close. Blood is then redirected through surrounding veins. Patients who undergo the procedure recovery quickly – most are able to walk out of Freeman Wound Care clinic unassisted.

Freeman Wound Care also now provides Misonix SonicOne®, a wound care system designed to address the challenges caused by chronic wounds. In the past, if standard wound care would not result in the desired level of wound improvement, physicians were required to surgically debride a wound. With SonicOne, Freeman physicians are able to remove nonviable tissue within the wound, a critical step for proper healing. SonicOne utilizes high-intensity, low-frequency ultrasound to disrupt, inactivate and remove bacterial organisms from surfaces while stimulating the body’s self-healing ability. With SonicOne, Freeman Wound Care physicians are able to debride conditions such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, pressure sores, burns and bone wounds.

No referral is needed at Freeman Wound Care. The clinic is open 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday. For appointments, call 417.347.4800.
