Beacon of Hope Monument

On May 22, 2011, an EF-5 multivortex tornado devastated Joplin, taking 161 lives, injuring hundreds, and destroying approximately 8,000 structures. Within minutes, hundreds of injured began arriving at Freeman Hospital West. In the hours and days following the disaster, Freeman caregivers worked tirelessly to care for more than 1,700 patients.

In honor of Joplin, victims of the tornado, and caregivers who worked to save their neighbors, Freeman constructed the Beacon of Hope Monument. This memorial is located at Freeman Hospital West near the 32nd street entrance.
