Children's Miracle Network Hospitals® at Freeman Health System

Making Miracles Happen for Local Kids

Our Children’s Miracle Network Hospital at Freeman Health System raises funds for local children and families. They receive assistance for those with medical needs, such as prescriptions, medical equipment and specialty care. Funds are also raised to support Freeman pediatricians and maternal/child departments, including Freeman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Freeman Maternity Center and pediatric departments, for pediatric equipment, medical supplies, educational programs and more. One hundred percent of every dollar raised locally stays local – donations help children and their families in 14 counties in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas.

That’s our mission. Here’s the reality.

Every day, local families reach out to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to seek assistance after receiving a devastating diagnosis for a child’s illness or as a result of a child suffering a traumatic injury. They don’t know where to turn or what to do. That’s when your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital at Freeman steps in to provide:

  • Financial help for a power wheelchair to keep a child safe and thriving
  • Travel expenses so a child can see an out-of-town specialist
  • Assistance to purchase prescription medicines denied by insurance for a child in pain

Last year alone, we provided family assistance to more than 1,000 children to ensure kids in our communities received the best medical care possible.
Through generous contributions of donors and national partners, your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital helps provide the best possible medical care and offer the most technologically advanced equipment available, including:

  • Angel Eye® live web-based camera system, enabling families with a child in the NICU to log in to see their baby through a live feed on a 24/7 basis.
  • Partnership with QuickMeds Pharmacy™ and Freeman Health Essentials for prescription medication and durable medical equipment
  • $1.3 million expansion of Freeman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Assistance programs

  • Direct family assistance for more than 800 children annually
  • Medically certified service dogs for children
  • Angel Eye® Cameras for Freeman NICU
  • ABR Hearing Machine for Freeman Maternity Center
  • Stryker bassinets for maternal/child departments
  • Car seat program supporting emergency and maternal/child departments
  • Higgins Heroes comfort packs for all hospitalized Freeman NICU and pediatric patients

Freeman Health System Miracle Service Dog Program

The Miracle Service Dog Program, provided by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® at Freeman Health System, ensures the placement of service dogs to children with special medical needs. Service dogs are individually trained to meet the specific needs of the child and their condition. Service dogs can be trained to respond and alert to seizures, redirect repetitive behaviors, tether and locate a wandering child, interrupt self-harm and perform countless other tasks.

The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals team at Freeman is awarding up to two service dogs per year to qualifying children and their families to help meet the overwhelming need in the community. We invite you to be a part of our legacy of changing lives through trained service dogs.

For more information about applying or if you would like to donate to the program, call Deborah Oglesby at 417.347.3793.

    • Service dogs can be trained in autism, psychiatric, mobility, hearing problems, diabetes and seizure response assistance.

Each school district has its own rules regarding service dogs in classrooms. Ensuring the dog will be allowed in your child’s school is your responsibility.

    • Yes. Full-size poodles and goldendoodles are available if a family needs a hypoallergenic option.

Each award cycle, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will select a certified individual or organization to train each service dog to meet the specific needs of the child.

After the family has been selected by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, several face-to-face meetings will occur to determine the best fit for the child’s specific needs. Selections, pairing of child/service dog breeds and overall training package will be finalized throughout this process. The trainer will take your request into consideration but cannot guarantee placement of your desired breed.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals awards the dog and all of the dog’s initial training to the families. Although the costs of the service dog and the initial training are provided by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, any additional training (to learn a new set of skills), yearly recertification, veterinary bills, grooming needs and feeding expenses will be the family’s responsibility.
