Tis the Season

Tips for Navigating the Holidays with Diabetic Friendly Choices

Tis the Season

As fall leaves fall and the air turns cooler, we know the holidays are fast approaching.  In my house Christmas cheer has already began as we put out a holiday village trimmed in holiday cheer.  Not everyone begins the holidays in October ….

The holidays may make eating while having diabetes a bit tricky.  Remembering that we want to strive towards feeling our best and keeping blood sugars under control through the holiday season is important.

Some suggestions for navigating the holidays:

•    Do not skip meals or snacks before holiday gatherings.
•    Choose the foods you have looked forward to and enjoy.
•    If you want more than one serving, take it to go.
•    Enjoying more movement on days, you are eating holiday favorites
•    Take time for yourself during the busyness of the holidays.
•    Be kind to yourself; do not judge wanting things that taste good.
•    Test blood sugar often so you are aware of how the holidays are affecting your blood sugar.
