Mammography Services FAQ's

Mammography services at the Freeman Women’s Pavilion in Joplin have been temporarily suspended. The American College of Radiology (ACR) that provides accreditation on behalf of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) performed a random audit at the Freeman Women’s Pavilion in Joplin. The audit included a sample of 30 studies randomly pulled from all patients who received a mammogram in Joplin between September 13, 2022, and November 7, 2024. The ACR determined that some of the images did not meet the ACR’s quality standards. This does not necessarily mean that the mammogram results received by you and your provider were wrong.

If you are a patient impacted by this determination, you will receive a letter in the next two weeks with information as to your next steps. 

In the meantime, Breast Care and Mammography services are being redirected to the Freeman Neosho Hospital, Women’s Pavilion, which remains MQSA Certified and accredited with the ACR. 

The Freeman Women’s Pavilion in Joplin has already started revitalizing its protocols, enhancing staff training, and working closely with the 3D mammography manufacturers to calibrate equipment.
