Internal Medicine Residency Program Information
Our program offers a unique scheduling system. Residents spend two months on inpatient services ("In") followed by one month on an ambulatory clinic block ("Amb"). This structure remains in place for the entirety of residency and allows for a more predictable schedule and consistent continuity in ambulatory care.

Rotation Structure
Our program tailors the educational journey to meet each resident's unique needs and career goals. Residents can customize their general wards and elective rotations to align with their interests or design a custom elective to focus on specific specialties or experiences. Additional options include subspecialty clinic rotations and community medicine experiences. Unless otherwise arranged, all rotations occur at Freeman Health System.
Curriculum
· Our didactic curriculum is designed to develop physicians who are not only well-educated and board-ready, but also highly capable of managing the care of complex, critically ill patients. Residents benefit from a protected academic half day held at the KCU- Joplin campus, featuring a variety of interactive and engaging learning modalities. To further enrich their education, residents also participate in activities throughout the month including peer review, morning report, journal club, and educational modules.
· All residents receive a Butterfly point-of-care ultrasound for the duration of residency to use in the clinical setting, along with classroom education and sono-sim module access.
