Freeman Sponsors Work@HealthTM Training in Southwest Missouri

Workshop on Workplace Wellness Benefits Employers and Employees
Joplin, Mo – New Year resolutions often bring goals of getting fit. For companies encouraging wellness is simply good business. The effect of healthier employees can mean lower insurance premiums, fewer workers’ compensation claims, and less missed worktime because of illness.
Freeman Health System will offer Work@HealthTM training in February. The Work@HealthTM workshop which will educate employers about strategies and tools to successfully plan, implement, and evaluate workplace wellness programs. The training is a program that is sponsored by the Missouri Council for Activity and Nutrition (MOCAN) Worksite Wellness Workgroup.
“Often, there is a core group of employees who are passionate about wellness,” says Kris Drake RN, CHPD, Wellness Coordinator for Freeman Health System, “but they may not know how to make the business case for an organized company-wide effort. Work@HealthTM gives participants the skills to initiate or improve employee wellness programs.” The Freeman Workgroup created a WorkWell Toolkit for those training to use. In July, Freeman had seven businesses it trained get recognition for workplace wellness programs at a WorkWell Missouri Award Celebration. The training agrees with programs in place with the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.
Work@HealthTM, a program designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, includes modules addressing everything from program planning and worksite assessment to communication and sustainability. The discussion-based workshop engages representatives from businesses with well-established and newly-conceived programs. When the participants return to their workplace, they have a wealth of knowledge their fingertips and a network of worksite wellness professionals with whom they continue to share ideas.
