JOPLIN, Mo. – Freeman Neosho Physician Group is pleased to welcome Dr. Shelby Tinney-Edge, an internal medicine physician, to its staff. A native of the Joplin area, Dr. Tinney-Edge considers Freeman home.

“I always knew I was going to come back home and help the people in my community,” Dr. Tinney-Edge said. “I felt like the physicians at Freeman Neosho Physician Group were very close knit. I liked the small town feel of Neosho, and there is a great need for primary care.”

After earning her Master of Science in biomedical sciences and medical degree from Kansas City University in Kansas City, Mo., she completed her residency in internal medicine at Freeman Health System. 

Dr. Tinney-Edge is a strong believer in primary preventative care and likes to address patients’ issues early in the disease course to help prevent them from becoming seriously ill.

“I don’t want my patients to think that they are coming to me for me to just tell them what they need to do,” she said. “I want to have a conversation with them and come up with a game plan with them, so they can help me direct their care. I want it to be a collaborative partnership and help them be as healthy as they can.”

Outside of work, Dr. Tinney-Edge enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Jacob Edge, and their nine-month-old son.
