Freeman Named Top Teaching Hospital

December 08, 2017

Award Recognizes Patient Safety and Quality

Freeman Health System was named a Top Teaching Hospital by the Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization. Freeman is one of two hospitals in Missouri and 36 nationally to receive this honor.

The physician training program at Freeman has provided medical students and resident doctors the opportunity to study with some of the most knowledgeable and dedicated physicians in the country for more than 40 years. Freeman offers graduate medical education training in four residency programs – Emergency Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry.

“This recognition is proof of the extraordinary devotion and passion demonstrated each and every day by our physicians, residents, nurses and staff,” said Paula F. Baker, Freeman President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud to provide exceptional care to patients while shaping tomorrow’s doctors along the way.”

Among thousands of hospitals in the country, Freeman was recognized nationally alongside:

  • 10 Top Children’s Hospitals
  • 45 Top General Hospitals
  • 18 Top Rural Hospitals
  • 36 Top Teaching Hospitals

Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors.

“We are proud to recognize Freeman as a 2017 Leapfrog Top Hospital,” said Leah Binder, Leapfrog President and Chief Executive Officer. “This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and the local community. The entire staff and board deserve praise for putting quality first and achieving results.”

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The selection of 2017 Top Hospitals is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2017 Top Hospitals, visit leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
